Massive Fire Breaks Out at Scrap Yard in Whitchurch-Stouffville
Emergency crews are on the scene of a large fire at a scrap metal yard in Whitchurch-Stouffville, prompting road closures and a prolonged firefighting effort.
The blaze was reported around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at a facility on Woodbine Avenue, just south of Stouffville Road. Thick smoke and towering flames were visible from a distance, as captured by aerial footage.
Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, tanker trucks were brought in with support from neighbouring fire departments. Firefighters remain on scene in what officials describe as a “prolonged operation.”
Woodbine Avenue is currently closed between Stouffville Road and 19th Avenue. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
