Toronto’s downtown core was thrown into disarray Thursday morning after a TTC streetcar derailed at the busy intersection of Bathurst and Dundas streets.

According to Toronto police, the incident occurred just after 7:20 a.m., causing significant service disruptions and road closures during peak commute hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The derailment impacted three major TTC routes — 505 Dundas, 511 Bathurst, and 506 Carlton — leaving many commuters stranded or delayed. The TTC has since resumed full service on the 505 and 506 lines, while shuttle buses continue to operate to support affected riders.

Authorities quickly removed the derailed streetcar from the intersection, but traffic congestion and residual delays persisted well into the late morning. Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes while cleanup and inspections are underway.

This incident adds to a growing concern among Toronto transit users over reliability issues and aging infrastructure, especially during crucial commuting windows.
