Carjacking Suspect Injured After Jumping 40 Feet Off Gardiner Expressway in Police Chase

A dramatic police pursuit in downtown Toronto ended with a carjacking suspect in the hospital after he jumped approximately 40 feet off the Gardiner Expressway in an attempt to escape arrest.

Toronto police say they located a stolen vehicle believed to be involved in an earlier armed carjacking incident. When officers approached the vehicle, multiple suspects fled the scene on foot.

During the pursuit, one of the fleeing suspects made a desperate move — leaping off the elevated Gardiner Expressway near the downtown core. Emergency crews were called immediately, and the injured man was found at ground level suffering from serious injuries.

He was quickly transported to hospital. Authorities have not yet released details on his condition or identity.

Specialized police units responded to the scene. The area saw a heavy police presence for several hours as investigators gathered evidence and searched for any remaining suspects.

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or witness information to come forward as the investigation into the armed carjacking and attempted escape continues.

Further updates are expected as the case develops.
