In just one day, five of Toronto’s speed cameras were vandalized — and now, a city councillor is demanding action.
Damaged camera locations include:
- Sheppard Ave East (near Don Mills Rd)
- The East Mall (by Faludon Ct)
- Pharmacy Ave (near Sherwood & Galworthy)
- McCowan Rd (south of Sandhurst Circle)
Councillor Anthony Perruzza says the city’s Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program is unfairly targeting responsible drivers. He wants tickets paused while the city reviews how the system works.
Toronto now has 150 cameras, and last year alone, they brought in $40 million in fines. But with more people complaining and other cities like Vaughan pausing their programs, is it time Toronto did the same?
Perruzza says:
“These cameras feel like speed traps. Drivers near the limit are still getting fined.”
Should Toronto hit the brakes on speed camera tickets?
