A shocking incident in Richmond Hill left several families in distress on Wednesday after a vehicle plowed into the side of a child care building, injuring ten children.

York Regional Police confirmed the collision happened shortly after 3 p.m. near Yonge Street and Nottingham Drive. Emergency responders, including paramedics and fire crews, rushed to the scene within minutes of receiving calls about a “vehicle into building” incident.

Authorities stated that ten children were hurt in the crash. Two of them were transported to hospital — one with serious injuries and another with life-threatening injuries. The conditions of the remaining eight children have not yet been disclosed.

The crash prompted an immediate response from both police and medical teams, who worked to assess and stabilize the young victims. Witnesses reported seeing panicked parents and caregivers rushing to the scene as emergency crews surrounded the damaged building.

To manage the situation, police closed a stretch of Yonge Street between Gamble Road and Brookside Road. Parents were directed to gather at Thornbush Court, located on the north side of the building, to reunite with their children safely.

Investigators have not yet released details about the driver involved or the events leading up to the collision. It remains unclear whether mechanical failure, driver error, or another factor caused the vehicle to crash into the building.
