Ottawa City Employee Fired After Vandalizing National Holocaust Memorial

A City of Ottawa employee has been fired after being charged with vandalizing the National Holocaust Monument earlier this month. Red paint with the words “Feed Me” was found on the monument on June 9, prompting an investigation by Ottawa Police.
The 46-year-old suspect, who was on leave at the time, faces multiple charges including mischief to a war memorial and harassment. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe expressed his disturbance over the incident, stating that the actions do not reflect the city’s values and confirming the employee’s termination on Sunday.
Ottawa Police’s Hate and Bias Crime Unit is urging anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the serious impact such acts have on the community. The National Holocaust Monument honors the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and was unveiled in 2017 by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
