Mississauga Chaos: Gunman Rams Police Cruiser During Traffic Stop, Arrest Made

Mississauga, ON – July 1, 2025 — A Brampton man is facing multiple firearms charges after a dramatic confrontation with Peel Regional Police in Mississauga led to the seizure of a loaded handgun and a high-risk arrest.
The incident unfolded on the evening of June 25, near 99 Acorn Place, when officers from Peel’s 12 Division were conducting proactive patrols as part of ongoing efforts to curb gun and gang activity in the region.
Police say they attempted to investigate a suspicious vehicle when the driver suddenly rammed their cruiser in an apparent effort to flee. The impact disabled both vehicles, forcing the suspect to abandon his car and attempt to escape on foot.
After a short chase, officers arrested 31-year-old Demetre Hibbert of Brampton. A search revealed he was carrying a loaded illegal Glock 25 9mm handgun.
Thankfully, no officers were injured in the incident. Police credit their quick and coordinated response for safely resolving a situation that could have turned deadly.
Hibbert now faces multiple firearms-related charges, and investigators say the gun will be sent for forensic testing to determine if it was used in any other crimes.
What This Means for Peel Region
This arrest marks another serious reminder of the risks frontline officers face daily in the fight against illegal firearms. Peel Police have continued to increase patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas as part of their broader strategy to reduce gun violence.
Police are urging anyone with additional information about this incident or other criminal activity in the area to contact the 12 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
