A Mississauga teacher has been charged with multiple criminal offences following disturbing allegations involving four students at a Peel District School Board school.

According to Peel Regional Police, the incidents occurred during the 2024–2025 academic year at a school near Atwater Avenue and Cawthra Road. Police allege that the teacher physically moved four students into a room and prevented them from leaving, amounting to forcible confinement.

The teacher, identified as 36-year-old David Szybalski, now faces four counts of assault and four counts of forcible confinement. He has been released on conditions and is expected to appear in a Brampton courtroom at a later date.

The specific school involved has not been named by police due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and to protect the identities of those affected. Authorities also noted that the allegations have not been tested in court.

The Peel District School Board confirmed that the teacher has been suspended pending the outcome of the court process. In a statement, the board said the individual has been removed from the school and that the board is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.

“We recognize this news will be upsetting for students and their families and can raise many emotions and concerns,” the board said. “Support services are available for anyone affected.”

Police are concerned there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“This is an active investigation,” said Peel Police in a news release. “Anyone who believes they or someone they know may have been impacted is asked to contact our investigators.”

This case has sparked outrage and concern across the local community, adding to growing conversations around school safety, teacher accountability, and student protection.
