Measles Outbreak Halton Region

Halton Region Public Health (HRPH) has confirmed a case of measles in Oakville, sparking renewed concerns across the community and putting local families on alert.

Officials say the potential exposure occurred on June 12, at the North Oakville Medical Building, located at 3075 Hospital Gate, near Dundas Street West. Anyone who visited the facility between 2:10 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. may have been exposed to the virus.

Measles is an extremely contagious disease that spreads through the air and can remain active in the environment for up to two hours. Halton’s public health department urges anyone who was at the site during that timeframe to check their immunization status and monitor for symptoms for the next 21 days.

Common Measles Symptoms Include:
• High fever
• Cough and runny nose
• Red eyes
• A blotchy red rash starting from the face and spreading down the body
• White spots inside the mouth

Public Health Ontario reports that since the outbreak began in October 2024, over 2,080 confirmed and probable cases have been recorded in the province. Tragically, this includes the death of a newborn infant in southwestern Ontario earlier this month.

⚠️ What You Should Do:
• If you were at the Oakville medical building on June 12 during the specified hours, contact your healthcare provider.
• Ensure your MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine records are up to date.
• Watch for any symptoms and avoid exposing others if you’re unwell.

For further updates, Halton residents are encouraged to follow official announcements from Halton Region Public Health.
