Charity Box Stolen in Essa: 28-Year-Old Suspect Charged

28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a charity donation box from a business in Essa Township.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, officers from the Nottawasaga detachment responded to the incident on the morning of July 9 after a report from a local business on Mill Street. Surveillance footage revealed that the theft occurred the night before, when a male suspect entered the store and left with the donation box.

Thanks to tips from the public and further investigation, police identified and arrested the suspect.

Christopher Lang, a resident of Essa, is now facing two charges:
• Theft Under $5,000
• Failure to Comply with Probation Order

Police credited the local community for their role in the arrest, praising residents for their engagement and cooperation.

“This incident highlights the power of community-police partnerships in enhancing public safety,” OPP said in a statement.
