Toronto Reaches New Heights: One Bloor West Becomes Canada’s First Supertall Tower

Toronto’s skyline has just gained a dramatic new addition: One Bloor West, officially crowned as Canada’s first supertall building—a title reserved for structures over 300 m (984 ft). As of late June 2025, the tower has reached a stunning height of 308.6 m (1,013 ft) across 85 storeys. This surpasses First Canadian Place and positions One Bloor West as the tallest residential building in the country and the second tallest human-made structure, with only the CN Tower standing taller in Toronto’s skyline.
A Landmark of Architectural Ambition
Conceived by Tridel and designed in collaboration with world-renowned Foster + Partners and Toronto’s Core Architects, One Bloor West is redefining vertical living. The tower’s bold exterior features a striking pattern of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal framing clad in champagne bronze, while horizontal bands between mechanical floors accentuate its rhythmic height.
From the base upwards, the design contrasts commercial and residential levels. The lower floors are dedicated to luxury retail and an Andaz-branded hotel, while the upper floors house 476 condominium suites. The development also honors local heritage through the preservation of the William Luke Buildings, dating back to 1883, which have been integrated into the podium.
Engineering Innovations & Construction Milestones
A defining moment came on June 24, 2025, when One Bloor West officially hit the 300-metre mark, entering the exclusive supertall category. The tower has now topped out structurally, with cladding steadily progressing and interior fit-out well underway across multiple levels.
To ensure comfort for future residents, a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is being installed near the tower’s top—an advanced engineering system that minimizes wind-induced sway.
Canada’s Vertical Future
One Bloor West isn’t just a standalone marvel—it’s part of a broader surge in supertall developments reshaping Toronto’s skyline. Upcoming projects include:
• SkyTower at Pinnacle One Yonge: Rising to 352 m (106 storeys), poised to become Canada’s tallest building.
• College Park Redevelopment Tower 2: A proposed mixed-use tower of 333 m (96 storeys).
• One Yonge Phase 3 and 19 Bloor St W: Standing at 320 m and 317 m, respectively.
With these projects underway, Toronto is cementing its place as a global hub of vertical growth and architectural innovation. One Bloor West marks only the beginning of a new era in Canada’s skyline.
