Niagara Falls Tour Bus Crash on New York Thruway Leaves Multiple Dead, Dozens Injured
A tragic accident on the New York State Thruway has left multiple people dead and dozens more injured after a tour bus traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City overturned near Pembroke, about 25 miles east of Buffalo.
Authorities confirmed the crash happened on Friday afternoon as the bus, carrying more than 50 passengers, lost control and rolled over on Interstate 90. Several passengers were ejected from the vehicle, and at least one child is among the dead. Emergency officials described the scene as “chaotic and devastating.”
Rescue efforts were swift, with multiple ambulances and Mercy Flight helicopters rushing to the scene. More than 40 passengers were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries, including broken bones and head trauma. Many victims were international tourists, with reports indicating passengers of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino origin were among those affected.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed she had been briefed on the tragedy and said state and local agencies are working together on the investigation. While officials believe they have initial insight into what caused the bus to lose control, the exact reason has not yet been disclosed.
