Toronto Pearson Runways Reopen After Private Jet Suffers Gear Damage on Landing

Two runways at Toronto Pearson International Airport have reopened after a private jet experienced a landing gear malfunction earlier Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. when a privately registered Hawker 850XP jet landed and sustained damage to its landing gear. The aircraft eventually came to a stop near a runway intersection. There were two crew members on board at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The event prompted the temporary closure of two of Pearson’s five runways, leading to delays in some arrivals and departures. Airport operations continued on the remaining runways throughout the morning.
By 5 p.m., the affected runways had been cleared and reopened, and flight operations returned to normal. Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada have been dispatched to determine the cause of the gear failure. Transport Canada has also been notified.
This incident highlights how even minor mechanical issues involving small private aircraft can disrupt operations at one of Canada’s busiest airports.
